Ivory resin statue and miniature in 2 sizes.
The Virgin of Guadulupe is the most honored saint in
Mexico. She appeared in a vision to Juan Diego near Mexico City in 1531. She
told him to build a church there, where one to an Aztec goddess presently stood,
saying she she was the Mother of all who dwelled in the land.
Several miracles are attributed to the Virgin. In 1750, she was declared the
Patroness and Protectress of New Spain.
Her feast day is December 12.
