Sarasvati was a river goddess in the ancient Aryan period and here chooses a swan consort as her means of transportation.

Later Saraswati added to her attributes sound – she became Vak,
the Goddess of river-like streaming speech.
She is often depicted, as in this Saraswati figurine, playing a stringed instrument known as a veena.

Sarasvati is also the Goddess of learning, the consort of Brahma,
and Patroness of the Arts.

Sarasvati’s color is white, a color representing purity, like clear water. Her clothes, the lotus Saraswati sits upon, and her familiar swan (not represented in this statue) are all white. Sarasvati's appearance in this goddess figurine is graceful and one can almost hear the musical sounds of her stringed veena serenading us.
