Symbolism of The Emperor Tarot: 
Solidly Grounded Activity

The Emperor sits on a stone throne adorned with four rams' heads, holding in his right hand the ankh and in his left a globe. The Emperor's throne is rock-solid. He is in his place, completely grounded. The life force and the material world, symbolized by the ankh and the globe are at his command. The four rams' heads are symbols of the Emperor's will. He will bring all of these resources together to accomplish his purpose.

Change, Power, Creativity

A young woman sits on a throne holding a scroll labeled "Tora" meaning "law." On her breast is the sign of the meeting of heaven and earth, the Maltese cross. Her crown is the full orb supported by horns, the crown of the Mother Goddess Isis, who rules all things changeable, shown by the moon at her feet. Her power, upon which her throne rests, derives from the creative principle of duality, shown by the two pillars of light and darkness. To those who know and love her, she dispenses the sweet fruit of the world itself, symbolized by the pomegranites.

Symbolism of The Hierophant Tarot:
Down to Earth Wisdom

Taurus the Earthly bull may seem an odd sign for a holy man, but it makes sense if you understand that the Heirophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because, like all Taureans, he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that, like the Bull, he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

The Hierophant represents an old, favored teacher, therapist, counselor, advisor, or sponsor. That young Priest with progressive ideas, or the old Rabbi who was always so down to Earth and fun, or maybe an uncle who always offered such common sense advise.

Symbolism of the Justice Tarot:
Impartiality, Distance, Justice,Choice Leading to Transformation

A royal figure is seated between two pillars, a sword in the right hand and the scales of justice in the left. This pendant is representative of the law of karma or "as ye sow, so shall ye reap." The card signifies a position of choice ( the scales) along with the ability to cut away to the truth of a situation (the sword). The pillars here lead into one world and those of the High Priestess into another.

The Goddess Athena called an end to the cycle of vengeance and empanelled the first jury. Justice is about mediating the various claims of right, of morality, of duty. In a world of scarcity, not everything claimed can be acquired. Justice, in theory, sets forth a system to judge between the claims. Maàt was a goddess of justice in Egypt. She ties Judgement with Justice, as she helped judge the souls of the dead.
