Green Tara is one of the most
popular Goddesses in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. She helps one cross the
"ocean of suffering".
Anyone can pray to her: she accepts all supplicants. Her left hand holds a
half-closed lotus. Her right leg is semi-pendant, with her right hand, thumb and
forefinger together, touching her knee, palm out.
Tara is considered to be incarnate in all
good women. She is thought to have a real-life precursor in a Nepali/Chinese
princess who married the great king Srang-Tsan Gampo, bringing Buddhism to Tibet
and China.
