Greek Goddess Ariadne on Panther Statue
Ariadne Goddess Statue
This statue has been discontinued.

Panthers are associated with royalty and here the Snake Goddess, also know to be very athletic, rides leisurely with her panther familiar. A truly regal artwork, this Greek Goddess Ariadne statue replica represents the masterpiece of German sculptor Dannecker.

This replica of the original masterpiece of Dannecker is one of the best known German sculptures of the 19th century and is considered a modern classic.

Dannecker does not follow any of the mythological precedents in his representation. He depicts with this statue, Ariadne riding on one of Dionysius' panthers, naked. The pose creates a contour of extended repose, embracing the whole sculpture.

When Frankfurt was bombed during the world war, the sculpture was seriously damaged and was only restored during the late 1970's.
