Our Lady of the Snow
This peace loving Black Madonna
brought a huge snow storm to stop an invading army and advanced the hour of
sunrise to reveal the danger to the town of Aurillac, France.
One of the most beloved images in all Christianity is the The Black Madonna.
Devotion to the Black Virgin has never been stronger. Her shrines attract
thousands of worshippers each year.
The Black Madonna images in European pilgrimage shrines are a matter of some
controversy. Throughout Europe there are over 500 examples of these black images
and, while anathema to the orthodox church, they are widely venerated as having
esoteric, magical and wonder-working powers.
The Black Madonna is revered throughout the world, particularly in France,
Poland, Italy and Spain. She is the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Crusades and holy
pilgrimages.
